Demi Lovato Thought Smoking Heroin Would Be Safer Than Injecting It

On the heels of her new YouTube docuseries called “Dancing With the Devil”, Demi Lovato talks about how she didn’t think that smoking heroin would cause her to overdose. After 6 years of sobriety, Demi relapsed in 2018 and experienced a life-changing overdose.

Demi Lovato thought smoking heroin would be safer than injecting it. She admits to having injected heroin in the past but changed to smoking it, thinking it could prevent overdose. Smoking heroin and ingesting fentanyl-laced oxycodone landed the singer in the hospital, nearly dying of an overdose.

The morning of her overdose, Demi Lovato’s assistant found her naked in bed and her body was “completely blue”. When she had awoken in the hospital, she was legally blind and even still has blind spots in her vision, preventing her from driving. She also learned that she developed brain damage due to suffering from three strokes.

Demi is lucky to be one of few celebrities who survived overdoses and got sober. The biggest lesson we can take from Demi Lovato’s overdose is that nobody is immune to the dangers of addiction.

Demi Lovato thought smoking heroin would be safer than injecting it, but this is far from the truth. No matter how it’s administered, heroin is addictive and extremely dangerous. There are some long-term effects of snorting heroin to be wary of:

  • Loss of sense of smell
  • Damage to kidneys and liver
  • Brain changes and damage
  • & much more
